Online casino games – Pai Gow Poker ?
Given the fact that online casinos and real brick and mortar ones are not keen at all on setting up their own poker rooms ( in case of the real casinos the reason for this is thew high overhead costs) poker separated itself from all the other – purely luck oriented – casino games and became a world wide phenomenon on its own taking the internet by assault and delivering the game to millions of homes world over.

Such is Pai Gow poker. Though it was never really a lost genre it's popularity is no match to that of Texas Holdem. Real casinos, hawever and many of the online ones have them on offer. There are online poker rooms that offer Pai-Gow to their players as well.
Pai gow originates from the Chinese gambling game known under the same name, which is played with Chinese domino tiles. It is said to be invented by Fred Wolf, the manager of the Commerce Casino. Under pressure from the competiton he needed to invent something new no one could yet boast. Among a few other gambling games he came up with Pai-Gow poker.
The game itself is played with a 52 card-deck, each player being dealt seven cards at the beginning of the game. In addition to the 52 cards in the deck there is a joker used as well. This joker can be either a 10 or an ace depending on the hand they're part of.
This is the point Pai-Gow becomes a completely different game from any other poker-genre. Whether playing online or offline, the goal of the player is to make two hands out of the seven cards that were dealt to him. One of the hands needs to be a low hand and made up of two cards, the other hand has to be a high hand made up of the remaining five cards. Players have to beat the dealer's hands with both the high hand and the low hand they possess. It isimperative that the low hand always stay lower than the high hand, thus obviously the higher the high hand in the player's possession is, the higher the low hand can be as well, and this way the better his/her chances to beat the dealer.

Aiming for the highest possible two card hand without actually going over the value of the five card hand is the basic strategy in Pai-Gow. The best two card hand is usually the easiest to build with a pair.
Provided he/she gets two more pairs dealt the hand is as good as won as with the remaining two pairs the five card hand can be built.
Another sound strategy is, when one gets dealt a pair to hold on to htat for the five card hand and then build the two card low-hand out of the two highest values pairless cards.
Also if one receives no pairs at all during the deal the highest card should be held on to for the high five-card hand and the second and third highest cards should be used for the low two card hand.
Deciding who the winner of a pai-Gow double hand is, is done in the following way: if both the player's low hand and high hand are higher than the banker's two correspomding hands, the player wins. If only one is higher, then it's a draw, and the player gets his half of the bet back. If both hands are lower than the dealer's corresponding two hands the player loses.
